Drawing inspiration from Blacksmithing traditions throughout history, today's bladesmiths use a variety of metals and metalworking skills to create the desired design and function.
JB Custom Blades uses carefully selected metals to create reliable, functional, premium quality blades. Each blade is custom hand crafted to customer specifications. In addition to forging and shaping carefully selected metals, JB Custom Blades uses woodworking techniques to shape custom, comfortable handles of the perfect size and weight for each blade, specially designed for the person who wields it. We use only genuine leather to create attractive sheaths by hand, customized to compliment and protect every blade.
Medieval Technology
Metal forging is an ancient art with origins dating back to around 3300 BC, and mainly involving copper, bronze, and iron ore. Over the ages, metal smiths have modified a wide range of tools, including hammers and chisels, fire pokers, and our favorite group of tools--knives, files, and horseshoes.
Our very own blacksmith, Jerry, attended Oklahoma Farrier College and studied under Bud Beaston, master blacksmith and master Farrier. He authored the book considered to be the textbook for equine hoof care, titled "The Master Farrier". Jerry produced custom horseshoes by putting steel in a coal forge, manually adjusting the air flow, and removing it at the perfect red-hot temperature. He carefully shaped the fiery metal into a “U” shape to precisely fit each horse’s hoof.
In addition, he fashioned many of his own chisels, pritchels, and other hand tools for shaping metal. Being an authority on the anatomy of the horse's leg, he created a wide variety of shoes with distinct functions to treat the horse's condition and guarantee a productive, healthy gait.
Jerry began creating custom blades, part time, in his shop upon graduating as a Master Farrier. Throughout 21 years of experience as a farrier and
blacksmith, he pursued a deep interest in knives and swords. What started as a pastime of crafting knives became a full time passion to master the craft of bladesmithing, raising the quality and integrity of
knife making
to the same level as traditional custom equine hoof care. Today, our blacksmith

We had a fundraiser to do and we were on the hunt for unique auction items from special vendors. JT reached out to help and stepped up BIG TIME! And what an item we received. The thoughtfulness and care put into this hand-made unique item is astounding.
The rarity of the materials used... from the different exotic woods for the handle... to the obviously specialty steel... to the intricacy of the leatherwork for the sheath. Absolutely magnificent!

I recently bought a knife from Jerry, and I couldn't be happier with both the craftsmanship and the experience. The knife itself is incredible! You can tell it was made with care, skill, and pride. It's sharp, perfectly balanced, and beautiful to look at.
What really stood out though, was meeting him and his wife. They were so kind, welcoming, and genuine. My Dad's working with steel began in 1999 when he began his 20 year career as a farrier. In his retirement he's started to fulfill his vision of making custom knives.
